About Rory Whelan
Rory Whelan is well known and highly regarded as one of New York’s leading political campaign consultants. For the past 15 years, he has provided strategic advice and advertising to over 200 candidates and public referenda campaigns, including campaigns for New York Governor and over one-third of the members of the New York State Senate Majority.
Rory Whelan is also the highly respected former Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the New York State Senate Finance Committee, Senator Owen H. Johnson with whom he worked for 20 years. It was here where Whelan advanced through the ranks of State Capitol staff and earned the reputation as a talented and effective force in crafting public policy and communications strategy.
His advertising work, which includes over 1,000 television, radio and direct mail ads, has been prominently featured in the state’s major newspapers including the New York Times, Newsday and the Albany Times-Union.
Rory Whelan received a national award from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) for his efforts in organizing ALEC’s 2001 Annual Meeting in New York City. In 2003, he was named one of Long Island’s “40 rising stars under the age of 40” by the Long Island Business News.
Rory Whelan graduated from the State University of New York at Albany. A native Long Islander, he now resides in Saratoga Springs with his wife Mandy and their daughters, Elizabeth and Emily.
